WSKA Championships 2015, Poland - 3rd October to 4th October

SWSKA Championships 2015 : The KUGB England Squad

Karateka from all around the world traveled to Poland for the biannual World Shotokan Karate Association (WSKA) Championships held in Bielsko Biala.

The Championship took place over the weekend of 3/4th October. With over 700 entries from 22 countries, the Tournament ran over two days and lived up to expectations with 'world class' competitors producing Karate performances of the highest standard.

The KUGB was strongly represented at the Championships with International Teams from England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

England's Hisham Saif, was outstanding to win the Senior Men's Kata with a superb performance of Gojushiho Sho in the Final. Hisham retained his title that he won in 2013 to become World Champion for a second successive time. Also in the Senior Men's Kata final was Jack Somers (England) who was placed fourth.

The England Team of Hisham Saif, Jack Somers and Stuart Amos took Bronze in the Men's Team Kata, narrowly missing out on silver following a draw, with a strong performance of Gojushiho Sho.

In the Senior Men's Team Kumite, the England team of James McGorian, John McGorian, Ryan Tucker, Greg Hegarty, Francisco Martinez, Joseph Rawcliffe and Herve Vendekerchove fought strongly all day to reach the final. The final itself, against Poland, was very close and was only decided in the final match resulting in England winning silver.

In the Senior Ladies Kumite, England's Rhianne Blundell was on excellent form to be placed second and win a silver medal. Rhianne, alongside England team mates, Caroline McGrath, Cristina Finta and Nicole Donaghue took Bronze in the Senior Ladies Team Kumite.

Members of KUGB England and KUGB Wales Squads added further medals in the Cadet and Youth categories.

Rachel Edwards (Wales), was placed in both the Youth and Cadet Ladies Kata winning Silver in the Bronze in the Youth Final and going one better with Silver in the higher Cadet category.

The England Cadet Kumite Team of Brett Billingham, James Humphries and Aidan McLean fought strongly to take bronze.

Whilst, Natasha Ganderton (Wales) fought well throughout the day to take bronze in the Cadet Ladies Kumite.

In the Youth Men's Individual Kumite, England's Jamie Allen, who also narrowly missed on the final of the Kata, fought well throughout the day to take the Bronze medal.

The KUGB would like to thank all of the families and supporters who traveled to the WSKA Championships in Poland for their support.

An outstanding performance from everyone involved - congratulations to you all.
