Sensei Paul Dowell - 6th Dan
Paul started training in 1983 at Sensei Karate Club in Sunderland under the Instruction of Senseis Jeff Barwick, Owen Murray, Christine Pullan, John Holdsworth and Julie Nicholson. Paul continues to train with Sensei Holdsworth and Sensei Nicholson at Ronin Karate Club in Washington.
Paul passed his Shodan grading in 1986 under Sensei Enoeda. Each Dan grading iup to 4th Dan was also taken under Sensei Enoeda. After Sensei'suntimely passing, Paul graded to 5th Dan under Sensei Sherry in 2010 and recently graded to 6th Dan under Sensei Sherry, Sensei Poynton and Sensei Brennan.
Paul was selected onto the Sendai Team whilst still a junior competitor, representing the club for many years. He was also a regular member of the KUGB Northern Region squad under the instruction of Sensei Bob Rhodes. Due to his success as a competitor, Paul was selected on to the KUGB Junior and Kata squads and represented the KUGB at several European Kata and Kumite events. He was later selected onto the KUGB Senior Squad and competed for many years at regional and national tournaments
In 2012 Paul founded his own branch of Ronin Karate Club based in Seaham, Co. Durham. Paul is very proud to maintain his links with Sensei Barwick who also trains regularly at Seaham and also Sensei Holdsworth and Sensei Nicholson who conduct the club gradings. Their continued input ensures the students at Seaham maintain the highest of standards.
Paul now spends most of his time at the Seaham Dojo and attends courses with the KUGB Senior Instructors whenever he is able.
