Following extensive discussions with Sport England and the DCMS, Karate England have issued the following advice for Clubs in England returning to the Dojo.

The first two steps of a four-step programme are as follows:-

29th March
Outdoor training may resume for all ages without restrictions on numbers as long as the class is organised by a qualified Instructor or Club and follows KUGB guidance.  See below :

Under 18’s can return to normal training, including partner work.

Adults must continue to train socially distanced as per the previous guidance last year.

Both groups, however, can do pad work as long as stringent cleaning protocols are in place and it is advised that the when doing pad work, Adults wear a mask/face covering.

Although numbers are unrestricted outdoors, please ensure your members are not gathering in groups of more than 6 before and after class.

We have checked today with our insurance company and everyone holding a current up-to-date KUGB licence is covered as long as Instructors have a full risk assessment in place with regard to where they are training, i.e. a field, car park etc.

12th April (at the earliest and this is still to be confirmed)

Under 18s can return to indoor training and contact training and partner work is allowed – there’s some debate on class sizes so please take advice from your venue as some are in very small halls and others in large sports centres.

Adults can return to indoor training but on a one-to-one basis.  They can train in the same room as the Under 18 providing that social distance is maintained and it must be a different Instructor from the Under 18 group.

Trainers are not essential, but please discuss with your venue as their Risk Assessments may require these.

Adults may also continue to train outdoors following the protocols and guidance from last year.

Once again, the rule of 6 must be followed before and after all sessions.  Please ensure your students are not “gathering” after class in bigger groups.

As soon as we have further details we will, of course, let you know.
