The KUGB's England Squad put in a tremendous performance at this year's European Shotokan Karate-Do Association Championships held at the K2 Stadium in Crawley, England.

The Senior Men's Team, consisting of Michael Davison, Dean Field, Liam O'Grady, John Bruce and Christopher Cray, soundly beat Austria 3 - 0 in the finals to become European Champions for the second year running. The Junior Men's Team Kumite for 18 to 20 year olds consisting of Jonathon McGorian, Ryan Tucker, Craig Reynolds and Jacob Baker defeated Portugal 2 - 1 in a hard fought final match to become this year's champions.

Craig Reynolds also fought exceptionally well to reach the finals of the Junior Men's Individual Kumite but unfortunately an injury in the team event prevented him from continuing and he had to be content with 3rd place. In the Cadet Men's Team Kumite for 16 and 17 year olds, Jason Plumb, David Campbell, James McGorian and Joseph Rawcliffe put in fine performances but were narrowly beaten into 2nd place by Switzerland. 16 year old James McGorian, competing in his first international event, did very well to take the Bronze Medal in the Individual Cadet Kumite. Long time international competitor Zoe Campbell put in her usual solid performance in the Senior Individual Kumite to take her through to the finals. She took the Bronze Medal narrowly missed out in a fight off to the eventual winner.

Both Men's Senior and Junior Kata Teams gained 4th place in highly competitive events with very good performances of Unsu. Overall an exceptional result for the Squad with many other English competitors getting through to the last 8 and the 3rd successive win for the Senior Team winning a World and two European championships in the last year. The KUGB's Northern Ireland Cadet Team consisting of James McFadden, Raymond Gilloway, Mark Kenny and Aaron Dickson performed very well to take 3rd place in the Cadet Men's Team Kumite.

The KUGB Executive Committee would like to thank our numerous helpers and supporters who made the Championships such a successful event, particularly Val and Robin Dale who worked tirelessly for weeks on end, as did Beverley Loxton of community services at the Crawley City Council.
