Karate Summer School and Kids Camp 2009

Monday 10th August to Friday 14th August

29th Karate Summer School and Kid's Camp

The 29th Karate Summer School and Kid's Camp was held at Lancaster University from Monday 3rd to Friday 7th August. The course, instructed by Senseis Andy Sherry, Terry O'Neill, Bob Poynton, Bob Rhodes, Billy Higgins and Frank Brennan proved to be a great success with well over 200 students attending each day.

There were many activities on the Course including two morning classes with students divided into separate groups depending on grade. Special classes were also taken by Senseis Sherry and Brennan for those taking Dan Grades in the near future and the feedback was that these optional sessions were extremely helpful. There was an Instructor qualification class where two Instructor and eight assistant qualifications were awarded. John Bruce from Ashington was appointed as a KUGB Assessor.

Sensei Ian MacLaren, KUGB Archivist and Historian, instructed the students on the use of the Bo and gave a very interesting lecture on the evolution of Shotokan Karate. Sensei Ivan Birch, Phd, gave a most interesting lecture on the physiology of pain.

Tuesday evening saw the social event which was very well attended and enjoyed by all.
