Sensei Graham Jennings

Graham was swept along with the “Kung Fu” tide in the early 1970’s, before taking up Shotokan Karate at the Merthyr Tydfil Karate Club in 1976 with Sensei Lynn Powell.

He was accepted in to Bargoed SKC in 1989, under the leadership of his friend and police colleague, Sensei Kevin O’Neill, and the late Sensei Tony Kiff.

Training at Bargoed was always very hard and challenging, but Graham was rewarded for his efforts by winning a number of Welsh Kyu grade and All Styles Championships before passing his Shodan grading with Sensei Enoeda in 1994 at Crystal Palace.

Graham took over the running of Newtown SKC in 1998 after moving to the area with his family.  He competed in every KUGB Welsh Championships for many years, being placed joint 3rd in the Individual Senior Mens Kumiute section on two occasions.

Recently Graham was obliged to start a new KUGB Club in Newtown Powys, called Powys Red Dragon SKC.  It continues to thrive and he is extremely grateful for the help received from Jane and Richard Naylor-Jones, Kevin O’Neill and Sensei Frank Brennan.

Graham feels extremely proud to be associated with the KUGB Karate family for over 40 years and feels privileged to train at the Liverpool Red Triangle Karate Club when time allows.

Karate continues to be the golden thread in Graham’s life, that nourishes and maintains his physical and mental health.  He trains regularly with Sensei Kevin O’Neill and the Welsh Kumite Squad at Bargoed SKC and is also a very proud member of the Central Region Kata Squad where he spends many happy and demanding hours training under the guidance and instruction of Sensei Frank Brennan.

Graham passed his 6th Dan grading under Sensei Billy Higgins, Sensei Frank Brennan and Sensei Garry Harford in April 2023.
