The Grand Slam sees the National Squads of England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales come together for a Squad Training session followed by a competition where there are no medals to be won, only the pride of representing your Country. The competition also gives the Squad Coaches from each of the four Nations, an opportunity to watch their Teams perform under pressure against the best in the Country. With a World Championships in September and a European Championships in December, Coaches need to be able to assess their Teams before selection.
We returned to the fantastic facilities at Repton School, Derbyshire for the first Grand Slam of 2023. The session started with a warm up and then each group moved to their own area. England and Northern Ireland trained under Sensei Frank Brennan, Scotland trained under Sensei Graeme Lennie and Sensei Chris Cray and Wales trained under Sensei Kevin O’Neill and Sensei Simon Thompson.
After the training session, the competitors were given a short break break while the Referees were briefed.
Thank you to our Team of Referees & Judges and our Timekeepers and Recorders for their hard work during the competition.
