The Karate Union of Great Britain National Squads for 2026 have been confirmed following the annual selection process. Squad selection is highly competitive, with athletes assessed for performance, commitment, and potential across both kata and kumite.
The selected squads form the foundation of the National Teams, from which competitors will be chosen to represent their countries at the European Shotokan Karate-Do Association (ESKA) and World Shotokan Karate-Do Association (WSKA) Championships.
All squad members are expected to compete in two Grand Slam events each year, plus Regional and National tournaments, providing regular opportunities to test themselves at the highest level, benchmark their progress against elite opposition and allow their Squad Coaches the opportunity to watch their progress with a view to selection.
All Home Nation Squads operate within the National Squad structure under the leadership of Sensei Frank Brennan (8th Dan), ensuring a consistent technical standard and aligned approach across England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales.
