April ’26 – KUGB Grading Examiner’s Course

The KUGB held its first Grading Examiners Course of 2026 on Friday at Solihull Karate Academy, with Examiners from across the country attending an important session of technical training, guidance, and standardisation.

Led by Sensei Frank Brennan (8th Dan), the KUGB’s Technical Lead, the course reflected the depth of knowledge and experience he continues to bring to the organisation. Examiners were taken through key areas of grading procedure, marking standards, and the consistency required to maintain the high technical standards expected throughout the KUGB.

Particular emphasis was placed on the detail examiners should focus on in both kihon and kata, reinforcing the importance of accuracy, understanding, and correct assessment at every level. Sensei Brennan’s clarity and attention to detail once again underlined the value of these courses in protecting standards across the association.

Courses such as this play a vital role in ensuring that gradings throughout the organisation remain fair, consistent, and of the highest quality.

Well done to all who attended and contributed to a very focused and productive course.

The next Grading Examiners Course will take place on Sunday 2nd August at Lancaster University Sports Centre, Lancaster LA1 4YW.
