I started Karate in 1974 joining Aaisatsu Karate club under Sensei Jim Smith.
I still remember walking into the dojo for the first time, anxious and nervous.
I always wanted to do something different and Karate gave me just that.
Jim Smith was more than my Sensei; he also guided me through my youth and beyond. He was a big influence on my life.
Karate has given me so many opportunities and moderate success over the years in competition.
In 1995 I became a KUGB referee, which is a role I am still very active in.
I have fond memories of attending many of Sensei Enoeda’s special courses at Crystal Palace.
I have been fortunate enough to travel to Japan on three occasions to train with some very renowned Sensei’s.
Being part of the KUGB is special. I have had the opportunity to train with many exceptional talented Karateka, and I have formed many long-standing friendships.
In April 2014 I achieved my 6th Dan. I have to thank the KUGB senior instructors for all their guidance and encouragement, ensuring that I was fully prepared both physically and mentally.
2014 was also the year that I was awarded my 40 years of membership with the KUGB.
I take great pride in the achievements I have attained and to be part of the Aaisatsu Karate club and the KUGB.
