On Saturday 26th April 2025, the KUGB proudly held its first-ever National Kyu Grade Championships at the Grantham Meres Leisure Centre.
The event was created to give Kyu Grade students the opportunity to experience national-level competition, and the response was fantastic. Competitors from clubs across the country came together to test their skills in kata and kumite events, with categories carefully structured to give everyone a fair and encouraging platform to perform.
The talent, spirit, and determination of our Kyu Grade members – from 9th Kyu white belts right through to 1st Kyu brown belts was excellent and the atmosphere was supportive yet competitive, with a strong sense of camaraderie among all those taking part.
The KUGB’s team of referees, judges, and volunteers worked tirelessly to ensure the day ran smoothly, creating a professional and welcoming environment for everyone involved.
Feedback from competitors, instructors, and spectators has been overwhelmingly positive, with many praising the organisation of the event and the opportunity it provided for students to gain valuable experience and confidence on a national stage.
A huge thank you goes to all who supported the inaugural National Kyu Grade Championships – the competitors, instructors, officials, volunteers, and families. This is just the beginning of what promises to be a key event in the KUGB’s annual calendar, and we look forward to seeing it grow even stronger in the years to come.
