KUGB Referees

Referees are a vital part of our competitions, and our KUGB referees are all dedicated volunteers. Their role is essential in ensuring fair play, maintaining high standards, and upholding the integrity of the sport. In line with the KUGB’s philosophy of constant training and maintaining the highest standards, it is encouraging to see so many of our qualified referees attending the refresher courses held at our two annual Referees and Judges courses.

These courses are free for KUGB members and open to Dan grades aged 21 and above. They are conducted by two of our most experienced referees: Sensei Jim Brennan (8th Dan), our most senior International Referee, and Sensei Rob Welsh (7th Dan). The commitment of our referees to continuous improvement through these courses is crucial in keeping the quality of our competitions at the highest level.
